Wash, trim, and pat the okra completely dry. Cut into 1/2-inch slices.

Whisk together cornmeal, flour, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl.

Add okra to the bowl and toss until evenly coated. Make sure every piece is covered!

Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry okra in batches until golden brown and crispy (about 3-4 minutes per side).

Remove okra from skillet and place on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
