In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper (if using).

Dredge each okra pod in the flour mixture, ensuring it's fully coated. Gently press the breading to help it stick.

Heat oil in a large skillet to 350°F (175°C). Carefully add okra in batches, avoiding overcrowding.

Fry for 3-5 minutes per batch, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a wire rack.
