Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Snap off the tough ends of the asparagus spears. Wash and pat them dry.

Toss the asparagus with olive oil, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.

Spread the asparagus in a single layer on a baking sheet and roast for 12-15 minutes, or until tender-crisp.

Melt butter in a saucepan, add minced garlic, and cook until fragrant (1-2 minutes). Don't burn the garlic!

Transfer roasted asparagus to a bowl. Pour garlic butter over asparagus and toss gently. Add lemon zest (if using).

Serve immediately. This is best served hot, straight from the oven.
